This leaflet was developed to inform women aged 35-55 of their contraception options. It discusses sexual and reproductive health issues for this age group, including menstrual cycle changes, fertility changes and the perimenopause. The leaflet's layout is easy to read, with a fold-out table outlining women's contraceptive options.

This leaflet is part of an information programme aimed at filling resource gaps in the areas of sexual and reproductive health. The target audience of women aged 35-55 was prioritised when research (Irish Contraception and Crisis Pregnancy Study: A Survey of the General Population, 2004 - Crisis Pregnancy Programme Report No. 7) demonstrated a lack of information about the start of perimenopause and the need for contraception up until the menopause.

Focus testing amongst the target market clearly demonstrated a need for this resource. Feedback from the independently facilitated groups showed a very positive reaction to the leaflet. All the women in the groups learnt something new from the leaflet, and felt empowered to make informed decisions on their sexual and reproductive health. The leaflet has been medically proofed by the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP).
