The Health Promotion Department HSE South has developed a bi-annual newsletter entitled, Sexual Health News (SHN); the first edition was produced in October 2010.
The SHN was developed to support the sexual health capacity building measures of the HSE South, Health Promotion Department’s Sexual Health Team. Other measures contained in this work are the 10 day Foundation Programme in Sexual Health Promotion (FPSHP) and the Sexual Health Resource Library. The SHN (along with the other measures) are designed to support past and current participants of the FPSHP. Additionally, the SHN offers the sexual health team a link to all past participants of the FPSHP and assists in keeping the topic of sexual health promotion in “the minds eye” of a myriad of health, education and community professionals within and external to HSE South. Each edition focuses on highlighting up-to-date sexual health related reports and initiatives, specific articles on sexual health issues that may be of interest to fellow health professionals, along with some fun items. Previous editions have included articles on topics such as Sexting, Young Men & Crisis Pregnancy and a personal story on being diagnosed with HIV.
Hard copies of the SHN are only available to past participants of the FPSHP and local related sexual health services. However, if you would like to read the previous editions of the SHN you can access them on www.lenus.ie by clicking health promotion in the right hand column, and then enter ‘sexual health news’ in the search column. Please note that the Foundation Programme in Sexual Health Promotion is currently only available to health, education and community professionals working in HSE South.
