New Resources for Community and Health Professionals
25 January, 2006
Three new ‘Key Contact’ publications have been developed by the Crisis Pregnancy Agency. A ‘Key Contact’ can be described as a person or agency who may be contacted by a woman in need of information on crisis pregnancy support services. The new resources are specifically aimed at community and health professionals (public health nurses, maternity staff members, social workers, youth workers, teachers, etc.) and other front-line service providers. Their portable, sturdy designs mean that they can be used in office or clinic-based environments and in outreach/home visit contexts.

New Positive Options Leaflet
25 January, 2006
With the assistance of the Crisis Pregnancy Agency-funded counselling services, the Agency’s Positive Options leaflet was reviewed and redesigned in 2005. There are 12 services now operating under the ‘Positive Options’ banner. The new leaflet lists all the services and providers in line with the new Health Service Executive (HSE) areas. The new leaflet is now available for download or from the Agency in printed form.

The Positive Options website and free text messaging service (Freetext the word LIST to 50444) will continue to operate as before, providing details of the supports and services offered by crisis pregnancy counselling agencies in each HSE area.

‘Is Alcohol a Factor in Unsafe Sex Among Women Seeking Emergency Contraception?’
This two-part study was conducted on behalf of the Crisis Pregnancy Agency to explore the patterns of alcohol use among a sample of women requesting emergency contraception (EC) at one clinic and the reasons and circumstances causing women to seek EC. As its research focus, it explores the relationship between unsafe sex and alcohol consumption. Alcohol has been recognised as a contributing factor in unsafe sexual practices.
